The tennis world is surely a more interesting place when Serena Williams is involved, whether she is winning tournaments or cursing out linespeople, she creates more attention for a sport that certainly needs it. Williams has been out for a while with a foot injury and, more seriously, blood clots, but she has resumed training. As Williams looks to make her return to the game, it’s time to look at her accomplishments to show why she is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of all time.
Williams came into the game in the shadow of older sister Venus, but she showed she was more than up to the task of overtaking her when it comes to online betting odds as she won the 1999 French and U.S. Opens. Williams has since completed the career Grand Slam twice over as she has four wins in the Australian Open and Wimbledon, as well as two wins each in the French and U.S. Opens. With Venus, Serena has also won Wimbledon and the U.S. Open as doubles partners, and the two also won gold medals for the United States at the 2000 and 2008 Olympics.
At 29 years old, Williams has done more than most tennis players will do if they played the game for 50 years. In the “open era”, only Steffi Graf, Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova have won more singles Grand Slam titles, she has won more prize money in recent history, and she has the upper hand in her sibling rivalry with Venus, posting a 6-2 record against her older sister in Grand Slam finals. It would be fine if you take either of the previous three over Serena has the best player of all time, but there is no debate when it comes to Serena Williams being a legend of the game.
